Image services

Stable Image services are available in four categories.
  • Generate: The best text-to-image generation services. These services leverage the latest Stable Diffusion models from Stability AI, with specialist fine-tunes and microservices embedded in workflows. Among these, Stable Image Core is the flagship service that requires no prompt engineering to get high quality images in diverse styles.
  • Upscale: Best in class image upscaling that ranges from standard conservative upscales to Creative modes that transform an image to 4k masterpieces. Among these, Creative Upscale is the flagship for creating photorealistic images from low quality inputs.
  • Edit: The most effective AI-based image editing services, including inpainting with masks (generative fill), or with words. Includes niche tools for product placement and advertising, as well as basic tools such as background removal.
  • Control: The best image to image services. May take prompts, maps and other guides. These services leverage ControlNets and similar technologies built on Stable Diffusion models.

Premium performance

Stable Image offers the best in class service for each niche. In general, the services maintain the highest level of performance in the market. Each service is tested against the most popular equivalent available in the market.
  • Quality: Compare each service to the nearest or best-known competitor that offers the same service (e.g., text to image generation). Each service is tested against the competing services to ensure that it is preferred by professionals for aesthetic value and effectiveness for the use case.
  • Alignment: The value of a service is measured not only in its power to deliver quality, but also in its ability to follow instructions. For most images, this means good prompt following with minimal prompt engineering.
  • Speed: All services are optimized to offer the highest speeds for the task, running on Stability AI inference hardware.
  • Safety: All services on the API are heavily safeguarded to ensure a responsible and secure use of our services. Attempts to circumvent the Terms of Service or Acceptable Use Policy may result in denial of service.

REST API

Stable Image Services use a new REST API called REST v2beta. This API is easier to use and offers additional features, such as polling for asynchronous API, and improved reliability. The gRPC API service and REST v1 API service are both being placed in “Legacy” maintenance. We will aim to move all services over to the new REST v2beta API over the next months. Learn more about the REST v2beta API.

Enterprise plans

Stable Image is a living product line, and we are rapidly adding more API services across the categories. Enterprise plans are available for teams that would like additional features, such as:
  • Early knowledge of roadmap
  • Early access to APIs for testing and integration
  • SLA with high reliability guarantees
  • Partnered approach to safety as ‘verified customers’
  • Support in integration and application development based on the APIs
  • On-prem or self-hosted options for running services
